The Democratic Republic of Congo, There are almost 500 distinct ethnic groups and over 82 million people and there is a huge population of umbilical stem cells just waiting to be banked in the maternity wards of hospitals and lack their own bone marrow donor registries. Cancer patients who need transplants have to travel abroad and also pay out of pocket for the donor search, collection of bone marrow, and delivery of transplant. Many cancer patients are unable to afford the donor searches, which delays transplants and often lead to death early. This project helps to patient access to the treatment and better chance to overcome cancer and Improved survival of cancer patients who undergo bone marrow transplantation. The patients have to pay 4,000 dollars for the donor search abroad, plus 10,000 dollars for the harvesting of the stem cells and their delivery to the hospitals.
