As we've increased the number of clients we serve, from 30,000 in 2018 to over 419,000 in 2023, we outgrew our current location.
Since our founding in 2010, Feeding GA Families (FGF) has grown exponentially to meet this need, but we currently find ourselves at a tipping point. There is far greater need than FGF, and the food assistance ecosystem we are part of can address at our current capacity. There is also an immense amount of food wasted in our community, and companies willing to donate this food to FGF. We conservatively estimate that there is a need for at least four times our current service level and that there is excess food to meet that entire need. The problem? We have outgrown the capacity of our current facility, meaning that people go hungry as food is wasted simply because we lack the space to connect them.
Looking towards the future, we are now in the process of securing a permanent location to continue to serve our communities, expand on programs and services, and increase the quantity of quality foods we offer each week.
Our goal is to bring a whole well-being approach to services through key partnerships with local agencies, healthcare providers, and employment and training initiatives.
Current Need is $600,000 to secure the purchase of a community center for programming and services and a nearby warehousing space. The total cost for the properties, renovations, and completion is projected to be $3,000,000.
