CANCER JOURNEYS FOUNDATION

El Segundo, California

The Cancer Journeys Foundation (CJF) is dedicated to supporting cancer survivors by providing information, resources, and programs that help them navigate their lives after cancer treatment. Founded by Robert Hess, a prostate cancer survivor, the foundation aims to fill the gap in post-treatment support for cancer survivors and their caregivers (Cancer Journeys Foundation) (Cancer Journeys Foundation). The organization's mission is to create a central digital hub of survivorship information, enabling survivors to develop and implement self-help survivorship plans. This includes creating a Cancer Journey Map to help survivors structure their future, including treatment options, family issues, and self-help opportunities (Cancer Journeys. Foundation). CJF also focuses on raising awareness and early detection of cancer, particularly prostate cancer, through initiatives like the Prostate Cancer Awareness Project and the ProstateTracker, a free online early detection system (Cancer Journeys Foundation). The foundation envisions a future where no one dies from cancer due to lack of early detection or knowledge of how to manage the disease post-treatment. They aim to provide every cancer survivor with the necessary information and support to develop their unique self-help cancer survivorship plan (Cancer Journeys Foundation). The foundation organizes sports events and competitions, such as the Cancer Journey Games, to challenge and honor cancer survivors and their caregivers and promote physical well-being as a key factor in surviving cancer. Additionally, CJF operates the Disabled Veteran Empowerment Network (DVEN) program that has a two-fold mission: to connect disabled veterans, their caregivers, and supporters with benefits provided by the Veterans Administration and other veteran charities that offer genuine support, and to play a meaningful role in reducing the suicide toll of America's veterans (DVEN) (DVEN). DVEN was established to address the challenges faced by disabled veterans in accessing resources and getting their lives back on track. It operates as part of the Cancer Journeys Foundation and focuses on supporting veterans dealing with service-related cancers and PTSD. Rally4Vets is an initiative by DVEN that includes the Top Dog Championship, an annual event to raise awareness about veteran suicide. Teams from various military branches compete in amateur racing programs. The initiative aims to engage the veteran community and bring attention to mental health issues (Press Advantage).

The Cancer Journeys Foundation (CJF) operates in several areas. Mission area #1 focuses on early cancer detection and post-treatment survivorship. The CJF developed and operates Prostate Tracker, a prostate cancer early detection system. It is free on the Internet at https://prostatetracker.org.
