K9 Partners for Patriots (K9P4P) is a program that specializes in the training of service dogs with Service Members (SMs) and Veterans who have been diagnosed with service-related PTSD, TBI, or MST.
Our program uniquely integrates the veteran into the dog’s training in small group sessions from day one. This allows the Veteran and dog to build a bond of trust, communication, and companionship. By doing this, we are able to assist the veteran in learning how to recognize their dog’s response to their personal needs. The result is to help them refocus on the task at hand instead of themselves and the issues causing their anxieties and redeem their sense of mastery. Using a group training technique allows the Veteran to integrate back into a social environment, which, in turn, helps their family life and day-to-day living. This, along with the physiological and psychological benefits of having the dog with them 24/7, is life-changing for these men and women. Those unable to leave their house can come to a facility where they are safe and accepted and eventually can gain independence with their dog's assistance, which would not have been possible otherwise. We also have an in-house Licensed Clinical Social Worker on staff who provides mental health counseling free of charge to our veterans and their families.
We accept SMs and Veterans regardless of their era of service. If they meet the simple qualifying criteria, they are welcome!
This 25-week training program, including purchasing a dog, service vest, and all necessary equipment, is free to the SM and Veteran!
