Hurricane Melissa Devastates Jamaica

efter GLOBAL FUND SAN FRANCISCO CORPORATION

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane on Tuesday October 28 as the strongest storm in the island's history, with winds of 185 mph, torrential rain as well as flooding. It also then made landfall in Cuba early Wednesday morning as a very strong Category 3 hurricane. For Jamaica, the damage, major flooding and power cuts will no doubt have a lasting impact. And while immediate response is critical to help those with more urgent needs - emergency food, shelter and medical care to victims and those displaced by the storm - the longer-term recovery effort is projected to be resource-draining and time-intensive. These immediate and long-term efforts require support from nonprofits who have already mobilized a response to Jamaica and surrounding areas. Please consider providing your support to one of these organizations to help those in need.
