Painted Paws for Veterans networks with various animal shelters and rescues around the United States, enabling us to help match dogs from kill facilities with veterans and their families. From family companions, to emotional support dogs and service dogs, PPFV helps find the best match for each veteran based on the veteran's needs and any associated disabilities. We then provide on-going support and training resources to help the veteran deal with any medical or behavioral issues.
In our rescue program, PPFV takes in pregnant moms-to-be from kill shelters, provides any needed medical care, and gives them a safe environment in which to have their puppies. We then help raise the babies until they are of adoptable age. When the puppies are ready for adoption, our veterans get first pick of the new recruits. Each mom is cared for and spayed at an appropriate time and offered for adoption. After our veteran's needs are taken care of, any remaining moms and puppies are offered for adoption to the general public. Their adoption fees help fund our veteran programs.
In addition to our adoption services, Painted Paws for Veterans also offers several opportunities for veterans who are unable to adopt a companion to spend time in a safe environment with an emotional support or therapy animal. Through our visitation programs, our three therapy dogs spend several hours each month at medical and private care facilities visiting with veterans. We also offer private home visitation and therapy weekends on the Painted Paws for Veterans' ranch located in the mountains west of Colorado's Royal Gorge.
Finally, PPFV provides education on veteran PTSD and emotional issues through our website and public events and speaking opportunities. Through generous community and individual support, Painted Paws for Veterans is able to provide our programs and services free of charge, or at a greatly reduced rate, to disabled veterans and their families.
Painted Paws for Veterans welcomes all comments and questions about our programs and services. Please feel free to contact us for more information either through email or our Facebook page. Facebook is a great way to find out about us, including which dogs are currently available for adoption, and what projects are going on around the ranch.
