Organizational Overview:
Horizons Social Services was founded in 2009 in response to the growing needs of vulnerable individuals and families in our community. What began as a small outreach has grown into a vital nonprofit serving as the only soup kitchen in our county and a key resource for thousands of neighbors facing hunger, poverty, and crisis. Grounded in faith and driven by compassion, Horizons exists to meet both immediate physical needs and offer long-term pathways to stability and transformation. We typically serve 50,000 hot, nutritional meals annually.
Goals:
Our goals include alleviating hunger, reducing food waste, strengthening families, and providing holistic support that leads to sustainable life change. We strive to be a place of belonging where people experience the love of Christ through tangible care and consistent community.
Audience Served:
We serve individuals and families experiencing poverty, food insecurity, homelessness, addiction, unemployment, and social isolation. Many of our guests are seniors, single parents, veterans, children, and individuals navigating major life transitions or crises.
Services and Programs:
Horizons operates a daily soup kitchen, a food pantry, a weekend backpack program for children, and a Christ-centered addiction recovery program. We also offer case management, job skills training, volunteer opportunities, and spiritual encouragement. Our food rescue program collects surplus food from local partners and turns it into nutritious meals and pantry items for distribution. We rescue over 500,000 pounds of food annually that might otherwise end up in a landfill.
