Peabody Soldiers Memorial Restoration

efter PRESERVATION PITTSBURGH

Beginning July 4, 2023 Preservation Pittsburgh is working with the Military Community Support Project to raise funds to restore and landmark the Peabody Soldiers Memorial as it reaches its centennial. The memorial is located at Pittsburgh Public Schools' Barack Obama Academy of International Studies, which served as the Benjamin H. Peabody High School from 1911-2011.

Current plans call for:
• The full restoration of the memorial's bronze body and the recreation of Victory's missing hand & wreath
• The relocation of an existing flagpole on school property
• Architectural lighting
• Restoration of the original setting before the 1970's renovation
• Connecting to East Liberty Boulevard

Our campaign goal is $100,000. We are raising funds from alums, the general public, and foundations. We are grateful for support of this public school asset that adds beauty and meaning to our built environment and honors those who served. Donations made from November until the end of December 2023, will count toward a matching grant put forward by The Benter Foundation.
