Windy Hill Senior Center, Inc. (d.b.a. Windy Hill on the Campus) has been incorporated since March, 1985. The organization operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and is governed by a 13-member board of directors. The center currently has one full-time executive director, one full-time program manager, one full-time marketing & communications coordinator, one part-time administrative assistant/receptionist, two part-time food services coordinators, and one part-time bookkeeper. Some of the programs and services provided through the center include wellness, lifelong learning, intergenerational opportunities, nutrition services, and socialization. From the period of January, 2007 until June, 2008, the organization increased its daily attendance by 150% and its congregate meal participation by over 250%.
From April 2001 until September, 2013, the center was located in the Spring Grove Regional Parks and Recreation Commission community center. The center occupied approximately 3,600 square feet in the building. Realizing the need for additional, visible, more attractive space with more parking, the organization entered into a partnership with the Spring Grove Area School District to relocate onto the school campus into a former middle school building. The center moved to its current location on October 1, 2013, and increased its square footage to over 17,000 square feet.
Windy Hill shares space on the school campus with a high school, elementary school and intermediate school. It has a strong partnership with the district and for the past 5+ years, the organization has joined with the school district to offer various intergenerational activities and programs for the older adults and the students of the district. Currently, the center is providing programs and services for 1,400 older adults in the community annually. In addition, home delivered meal services are provided to approximately 65 homebound seniors.
