Since 1983, Lunch Break has worked to alleviate hunger for thousands struggling with financial insecurity, including low-income, poverty-level, and working-poor community members; as well as single parents, veterans, senior citizens living on fixed incomes, the physically disabled, the employed, under-employed, and the unemployed in Monmouth County, NJ. We offer individuals the help they need today with the hope for a better tomorrow through our feeding programs, food pantry, clothing distribution, life skills, and job training, ESL classes, emergency shelter for homeless families, mentoring, wellness, and social service programs. Forty years later, Lunch Break is still committed to serving our community and anyone who should need help during these challenging times.
Current Programs and Services
The Soup Kitchen offers breakfast, lunch, Friday Community Dinners, and breakfast on Saturday.
Home-bound meal delivery is provided six days a week, 52 weeks a year, including holidays.
Meal delivery outreach provides meals to homeless and displaced individuals living in temporary housing in Monmouth County.
The Mobile Community Garden Market delivers fresh produce and dairy products to low-income senior housing facilities to ensure access to fresh, seasonal produce.
The Client Choice pantry offers fresh produce, meats, dairy products, and staple food items six days a week.
Holiday food baskets are distributed at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Clara's Closet distributes new and gently used clothing at Lunch Break by appointment.
The Suit Up Program provides professional attire and formal wear for special occasions.
The Annual Prom Drive distributes donated gowns and tuxedos to high school students.
The Clothing Outreach Program distributes clothing through partner agencies in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.
The Life Skills Program offers free ESL classes, GED preparation, resume and cover letter writing, interview and soft skills training, technical and computer training, and financial and budget counseling.
The Alliance For Success Program offers a two-year career and college readiness program for rising high school juniors and seniors. Workshops are offered in financial literacy, financial aid assistance, and writing and journaling.
Family Promise of Monmouth County formally merged with Lunch Break in January 2022 to address the severe, immediate housing needs of homeless families, providing emergency shelter, comprehensive case management, and support services.
A Womyn's Worth - Female Mentorship Program focuses on health, nutrition, and wellness through discussions, workshops, and guest speakers.
The Kid's Cooking program offers virtual cooking classes twice monthly through Zoom video conferencing to children ages 5 to 12.
The Back-to-School Program provides school-age children with backpacks and school supplies.
The Holiday Toy Program distributes toys, gifts, and gift cards to children in need.
The Senior Fashion Show and Christmas Luncheon are held during the holidays.
The Community Health and Social Services Partnership Series partners with community organizations, resources, and public institutions to ensure access to health and social services.
