As more and more streaming services emerged and dramatically
disrupted the television landscape, the elements involved in development of
a television series shifted as well. While in the past a simple pitch or one
page overview was sufficient to trigger a network to pay for the
development of a series, the onus now falls on the creators.
Although it is clear that a number of buyers would be drawn to Yellow
Darkness, a presentation to networks and streamers now must include a
strong logline, a compelling overview, a series bible, character biographies,
pitch deck, a pilot script, synopsis of the remaining episodes, and an
outlook for future seasons. Since Yellow Darkness is a period piece based
on a true story, a great deal of research is required as well. Also, there are
additional costs for travel, legal, design, and printing, etc.
Putting all this together is labor intensive. Which is why many
production entities with which we are competing are well funded. Since we
are not, we would like to level the playing field.
