KINGSBOROUGH COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOUNDATION

KCC offers a variety of services to help our students stay in college and succeed, such as our nationally recognized Learning Communities, which link students in groups of no more than 25 to courses of study with common themes and dedicated counselors and advisors. Our Single Stop Office (now known as Access Resource Center (ARC) & Special Programs), the first established in the CUNY system, offers free benefits screening for government programs, assistance with finances, tax preparation assistance, on-site lawyers, social workers, and job- finding resources. The on-campus Food for Thought Pantry allows students to procure free food for themselves and their families. Our Child Development Center is an official New York City Pre-K site that provides low-cost quality education for the children of our student-parents. We are home to an innovative Community and Urban Garden that serves as a source for fresh produce as well as a science lab and workforce development site, which partners with programs throughout the campus such as our Center for Economic Workforce Development (CEWD), the Culinary Arts program, and the Food for Thought pantry. In fall 2019 KCC launched a new program, Proud To Be First, which supports students who are the first in their family to attend college. KCC provides specialized support for veterans, students with disabilities, and New Americans. Through the Kingsborough Community College Foundation, we secure support for scholarships and other types of support such as food vouchers, MetroCards, and funds to purchase books and class supplies.

Since its inception in 1963, KCC has grown from an original class of 468 students taught by 39 faculty members to the current enrollment of over 15,000 degree and over 25,000 continuing education students. KCC’s student population spans the globe: 45.6% are foreign-born and represent 142 countries and speak 73 different languages; 35% are African-American, nearly 18% are LatinX, close to 16% are Asian/Pacific Islander, and over 31% are white. Most of our students (75%) come from families with annual incomes under $40,000 per year. 84.2% of our students live in Brooklyn; 6.5% in Queens; 4.7% in Staten Island.

In February 2019, KCC earned Achieving the Dream's newest recognition for achieving higher student outcomes and narrowing equity gaps: the designation Leader College of Distinction. KCC was one of 11 community colleges nationwide to earn this accolade, and the only one in New York State; the college also earned Leader College distinction in 2015. KCC was one of the Top Ten finalists nationwide for the 2019 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence; in 2013 KCC was ranked one of the top 4 community colleges in the nation by the Aspen Prize.
We are pleased to announcethat Kingsborough Community College (KCC) was ranked the #1 Community College in New York State by Niche.com.

KCC also was selected as one of ten colleges to participate in the Achieving the Dream and the University of Southern California Race and Equity Center Racial Equity Leadership Academy (RELA), a year-long program beginning in summer 2021. The intensive program is designed to support teams of five individuals from each college in the development of a bold, strategic racial equity plan to implement actionable solutions at their institutions.
