At Pancakes for Roger, every initiative begins with a simple belief: when we honor Veterans, we strengthen communities. The organization was founded to continue the legacy of Major General Roger E. Combs, whose life embodied service, mentorship, and leadership. What began as a grassroots movement around a family breakfast tradition—pancakes shared in his honor—has evolved into a growing nonprofit dedicated to transforming gratitude into action.
Pancakes for Roger inspires individuals, communities, and organizations to actively support Veterans and their families through meaningful programs, partnerships, and storytelling. Guided by the enduring values of integrity, perseverance, and purpose, the nonprofit connects people to causes that make tangible, lasting impacts on those who have served.
Our Impact and Current Programs
University of Missouri Veterans Clinic
Each year, Pancakes for Roger leads a nationwide “pancake picture” campaign that unites supporters from all 50 states, over 29 countries, and even all seven continents. To date, these efforts have generated nearly $40,000 in donations for the University of Missouri Veterans Clinic, which provides free legal assistance to Veterans navigating VA claims and appeals. This initiative transforms community engagement into real-world impact.
The Book: Pancakes for Roger – A Mentorship Guide for Slaying Dragons
Published in 2022, this book shares stories of mentorship, resilience, and service inspired by Major General Combs’s legacy. A portion of every sale supports Pancakes for Roger’s mission, extending the message of leadership and mentorship to a global audience.
Major General Roger E. Combs Endowment Scholarship
Established at the University of Missouri, this annual $5,000 scholarship supports Veterans pursuing law degrees and careers in public service. Since its creation, the endowment has awarded $35,000 to deserving Veteran scholars—helping to build the next generation of advocates and leaders who serve their communities with distinction.
Veteran Housing Support Fund (Launching 2025)
In recognition of the housing and financial challenges facing many Veterans, Pancakes for Roger is launching a Veteran Housing Support Fund. This program will provide grants of up to $1,000 to help Veterans with rent, utilities, home repairs, or accessibility needs. Funds raised throughout 2024–2025 will directly support this initiative, with the first grants distributed by October 31, 2025.
Community Partnerships
Pancakes for Roger believes collaboration amplifies impact. The organization proudly partners with community and national organizations including the Travis Manion Foundation, Easter Seals Veterans Count, Semper Fi & America’s Fund, QRFup, Meals on Wheels, Wounded Warrior Project, Missouri National Veterans Memorial, Jason’s Dreams for Kids, Kendra Scott, and Wreaths Across America. Together, these partnerships expand reach and deepen support for Veterans and their families nationwide.
Direct Veteran & Family Support
Beyond formal programs, Pancakes for Roger provides direct aid to Veterans and their families—through care packages for recruits, funeral and memorial support, and targeted gifts such as a $1,000 donation to a Veteran Make-A-Wish family. Each gesture reflects the nonprofit’s belief that service extends beyond uniform and that small acts of kindness can create lasting change.
