The Operator Relief Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization focused on providing healthcare and wellness treatments to Special Operations Forces (SOF) and CIA Special Mission Unit (SMU) personnel to address Post Traumatic Stress and other trauma. Our mission is to reduce the risk of suicide for individuals dealitng with PTS and provide tools and treatments to manage their care journey.
Specifically, ORF pays for a participant's travel and a medical procedure called an Advanced Stellate Ganglion Block which is designed to turn off the locked on fight or flight response and hypervigilance which affects many special operators. The idea is the ASGB allows a respite from the hypervigilance so that the operator can have time to focus on family, marriage, relationships, sleep, and other important steps on an individual's care journey.
ORF has treated over 540 special operators, both active duty and veterans, as well as military spouses dealing with secondary PTS. Currently, we treat 30 participants per month and are working to double out capacity in 2024, and double again in 2025. We have recently completed a two year study demonstrating that our ASBP provides a six month benefit for our participants. Our plan is to develop more evidence to support DOD, the VA and Tricare pay for our ASGB procedure longer term.
ORF has been funded by the Spookstock Foundation, and we spun out of the Spookstock Foundation as a stand-alone 501(c)(3) charity in January 2024, after operating within Spookstock since 2022. In addition, we have a collection of family offices, corporate partners and individual donors which allow us to fund ORF's important work.
