DEI Training for Educators

por ISLAMIC NETWORKS INC

ING wants to scale our DEI training for Educators across the country by marketing and adding new speakers to the program. Our trainings include the following three topics and community representatives:

Supporting an Inclusive School Environment: this diversity training consists of interethnic/intercultural panel that includes Muslim, Jewish, African, Indigenous, Latino/Hispanic, and Asian American representatives. The panel begins by presenting the history of racism against their groups, the racialization of Muslims and Jews, and the many ways that prevalent stereotypes are internalized by society and contribute to implicit bias, which can lead to bullying of in school. The panel continues by providing what they want educators to know about them that challenge prevailing stereotypes, and concludes with tools to prevent bias, and help create a more inclusive and equitable school environment.

Accommodating Religious Diversity in Schools: this diversity training consists of an interreligious panel that includes Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Buddhist and Hindu American representatives. The panel provides an overview of the challenges faced by students of various religious backgrounds at school, including bias and bullying. Speakers provide an understanding of religious practices that might impact students at school as well as strategies for preventing bullying, accommodating religious practices and helping to promote an inclusive and equitable school environment.

Countering Islamophobia in Education: this diversity training consists of a Muslim representative. The training begins with an introduction on Islamophobia and its impact on Muslim Americans, particularly the bullying of Muslim students who experience bullying at twice the rate of the general student population. This is followed by an overview of legal protections of religious rights for students and strategies for building an inclusive safe and harmonious school environment. To that end, the training provides an overview of Muslim students, their parents, their traditions and suggestions for how to best accommodate student religious practices in schools. The training concludes with general guidelines for teaching about religion in school and educational resources for teaching about Muslim history and culture.

All three types of training serve to support educators while creating safe, inclusive and equitable environments for student learning where all students feel valued and affirmed regardless of their background. The training courses are engaging and interactive and are available in varying lengths and formats to accommodate the school’s specific needs.
