United Way’s Health programming is committed to health equity by improving social determinants of health throughout Central Maryland. One of the ways we do this is by building our region’s food resilience in historically redlined and marginalized communities.
United Way understands the importance of social emotional well-being and is focused on developing strategies to help communities recognize when support is needed, recover from trauma, and connect residents with the resources they need to maintain social emotional wellness.
Health programming also works toward reducing barriers to healthcare through vaccine and health literacy education. We partner with grassroots organizations and local businesses on community-driven solutions to ensure that everyone in our region has sustainable access to healthy food and other resources to support optimal health.
Last year alone, United Way provided 9,000 meals (11,000+ pounds of food) to our communities alongside over 30 different nutrition and healthy cooking classes.
