Hero Expeditions hosts past and present military personnel, firefighters, law enforcement officers, first responders, family members of the fallen, special needs individuals and youth participants on hunting, fishing and other outdoor expeditions. Our purpose for providing these outings is to gather together like minded individuals that have a common set of experiences and provide an opportunity for them to bond and experience camaraderie while taking part in something they enjoy.
At Hero Expeditions we want help ease the daily struggles amongst our target group as well as to see suicide rates reduced. Research shows that individuals contemplate and attempt suicide for a multitude of reasons. Among them are depression, mental illness, traumatic stress, loss or fear of loss, chronic pain, social isolation and feeling like a burden to others.
While we are not equipped to tackle all of these issues, we focus on isolation and feeling like a burden. To do this we make every effort to surround our participants with other people that understand their circumstances, getting them on an expedition helps to combat their isolation. Subsequently, we provide them avenues in which to volunteer, which provides them the opportunity to feel like a blessing to others rather than a burden. Both of these can also have secondary benefits of fighting depression and stress as well.
Hero Expeditions truly believes keeping the company of other individuals that understand the situations you have experienced throughout your life is valuable. There is so much to be gained through sharing these experiences. Our honest hope is that our participants will befriend one another, as well as our volunteer staff, and that they will be available to each other long after the expedition concludes.
