Inclusion for Students with Disabilities (e.g. Deaf, Dyslexic)

por DESERT SKY MONTESSORI

Deaf students. This is our first year hosting a partially deaf student. The parent cannot afford to send the child to an ASL course, and our educators are not ASL trained. We also don't have ASL materials in the classroom for other students to learn at the same time the partially deaf child learns. We want all students to feel a sense of inclusion and belonging so to serve this student well, we need about $5K for ASL training (about $500 per course for 10 persons), and roughly $2K for in-classroom ASL materials, for a total of $7,000.

Students with Dyslexia. Some students with dyslexia would benefit from a translation pen, as recommended by special educators around the District. We have at least one dyslexic student in each of our classrooms (including our after-care room). The recommended translation pens cost ~$150 and we'd benefit from two per classroom (seven classrooms plus after-care room). This brings the total need to ~$2,500.
