Each year we must locate and purchase 50-60 tons of grass hay to feed our sanctuary horses. Last year due to drought the hay price went from $200 per ton to $350 per ton. By having a hay funds available we were able to purchase at an average of $275 per ton as we contracted each cut in bulk. Each year we start our hay fund collection in January to be prepared to purchase in bulk between the 1st hay cut in June and the second cut in August. All donations are helpful no matter how small. It all adds up and allows us to negotiate a good price and guarantee to stock our hay in before the winter price increases.
