SSG Michael H. Simpson was known affectionately as “the Unquiet Professional” by his company and team for proudly announcing himself as a Green Beret when most Green Berets work mostly in secret and unrecognized. While deployed with C Company, 4th BN, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) Simpson sustained injuries on 26 April 2013 from an IED attack and succumbed to those injuries on 1 May 2013.
Originally born out of sorrow and gratitude our mission was to give back to the military community that was so generous to the Simpson family in the immediate wake of SSG Simpson’s passing. We immediately began fundraising for military and military related organizations such as The Green Beret Foundation, Special Ops Warrior Foundation, USO, Fisher House and wear blue:run to remember. We continue to support these exceptional organizations and are grateful to have created our own programs to contribute in serving our community.
Veteran Programs: In helping the veteran heal we believe the whole family can heal.
Veteran’s Wilderness Program
Our Fresh Air program seeks to give veterans an empowering outdoor experience to connect with other veterans and civilian supporters to reclaim that sense of community they had while in the service. Previous excursions have included fly fishing in the Bob Marshall Wilderness and hiking the John Muir Trail. These excursions are small groups with the participants active in the planning of the event.
Race Program
Providing race entry and travel for female Veterans to participate in an endurance race of their choosing. Our hope is that they are able to live well and incorporate these endurance sports into their healing as they move to thrive despite the wounds brought on by war.
Gold Star & Surviving Family Programs: Bringing joy and light while navigating loss
Museum Program
All children have the ability to soar when given the tools. Children’s museums nationwide provide those tools and we want them to pass these opportunities on to Gold Star & Surviving children, free of charge. When tragedy strikes, the simplest task may seem overwhelming. We want to make it as easy as possible for families of the fallen to put themselves in happy, healthy, and inspirational environments. The Hands on Children's museum of Olympia, WA kicked off this program with 35 other participating museums. We now will negotiate or fund memberships for families.
Youth program:
Gold Star Sailing (GSS) is a 501-C-3 non-profit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to providing unique opportunities and adventures to the surviving children of fallen military service members in order to instill self-confidence, build character, teach teamwork, develop leadership, and promote healing in a positive environment of hope, adventure and friendship. We are excited to support GSS and their mission!
The Unquiet Professional continues to look for ways to support the military community and are committed to bridging the gap between military and civilian communities. The more we recognize the differences and similarities, the easier it will be to support each other.
