Imagine a group of heroes, men and women who have given a portion of their lives in service to their country. Now put those same folks out on the street, without a home or place to call their own. Imagine a group of heroes, men and women who have given a portion of their lives in service to their country. Now put those same folks out on the street, without a home or place to call their own. It’s a sad day when those in our own community who long for stability and security can’t find or afford it. One Community is that place they could call their own. A place where care, love, compassion, and time make all the difference in their world. We are a place where very special folks who have found themselves in irregular situations can say, “I’m home."
One Community is a wholly owned subsidiary of One Church Inc.. One Community is registered in the state of Indiana and is not a church, homeless shelter or transitional housing facility. What we are is a safe place of structure where Veterans can live, find purpose, belonging, self-confidence and self-esteem at their own pace. We are a permanent supportive community where we focus on the restoration of the individual first.
Our project will provide a sufficient supply of not only affordable, but supportive permanent housing which is necessary to prevent and end homelessness for our Veterans. One Community will provide the services needed for housing stability for Veterans from not only Harrison County but surrounding counties as well. Our Veterans are a population that are more vulnerable to homelessness and incarceration. Without housing stability and support services, Veterans will get stuck in a vicious cycle of unemployment, imprisonment, substance abuse, homelessness, or even suicide.
The project will consist of 20 one and two bedrooms units. The project will be located in Corydon, Indiana. One Community is projected to break ground in spring 2024. This project is a partnership with Blue River Services, where two non-profit organizations are coming together to make a difference in the community.
