Diabetes Awareness Fund

por GLOBAL FUND SAN FRANCISCO CORPORATION

November is Diabetes Awareness Month, a time when communities across the country come together to raise awareness about diabetes and its impact. Diabetes occurs when blood glucose, or blood sugar, becomes too high. If left untreated, it can lead to serious complications affecting the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and heart. According to the 2024 CDC National Diabetes Statistics Report, about 38 million Americans - roughly 1 in 9 adults - are living with diabetes. Prevalence is highest among American Indian and Alaska Native communities (13.6%), followed by non-Hispanic Black (12.1%), Hispanic (11.7%), and Asian (9.1%) populations - significantly higher than the rate among non-Hispanic White individuals (6.9%). Millions of Americans living with diabetes manage daily challenges related to diet, exercise, and overall health. Many nonprofits are working tirelessly to advance research, provide care, and improve access to life-saving support. This month, we can all play a part in supporting those affected by diabetes by donating to these organizations.
