The Lima Symphony Orchestra is starting its 70th year in Lima with its newly introduced Maestro Andrew Crust; who is the fifth permanent music director. The LSO is the only professional performing arts organization in the Lima community and its surrounding seven counties. We offer a full subscription concert series at the Veteran's Memorial Civic Center in the Crouse Performance Hall. We also offer two candlelight concerts in designated churches in our area. A family concert designated and designed for young people is offered in the spring each year.
We also reach far beyond the concert stage to bring the transformative power of music to every corner of our region with our community engagement.
Community Engagement:
Young People's Concert: Each year, more than 3,500 middle school children are invited to the Civic Center to learn about listening to and learning about symphonic music with a full orchestra and a concert hall setting.
Symphony Storytime:
We invite young children with their parents to the libraries in Lima, as well as our seven surrounding counties to enjoy our orchestra's quartet perform, while pairing classical favorites with popular children's books, allowing children to experience classical music through highly interactive teaching and performances.
Mornings with the Maestro:
Vibrant musical educational programs to engage children and introduce out Maestro to our community. Each performance will include members of our orchestra.
"Healing Through Music" and "Drumming Up Hope" are our newest pieces (2018). This project evolved from the Futures' Fund Grant, and the project was intended to actively fight the opioid crisis in our community and to reach out in earnest to those struggling with aspects of addiction and mental illness. The LSO believes that these individuals are a vital part of our community whose contributions should be valued. This specific project has ended, but we continue to keep it alive with our very generous donors and underwriter's. With its success, we now reach out to our prison population.
In-School Programs:
Our Maestro, guest artist, and or musicians go out to our inner city school for the opportunity to provide, interactive musical experiences. Students have the chance to ask questions and hear about our word-renowned guests' experiences. These informal presentations make music accessible and interesting for children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to hear live music.
Young Artist's Competition:
Our Friend's of the Symphony group holds a yearly competition for young vocalist and string musicians to come in from all over the world to compete for monetary awards, titles and an opportunity to perform with the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
Friends of the Symphony:
The Friends are dedicated to supporting the Lima Symphony. They donate their time to fundraisers, such as: mum sale, geranium sale, Stars and String dinner, Fat Cat Bar-bque, and many more events. They offer a Fall Tea, as well as a luncheon for each of our concerts which gives our Maestro an opportunity to interact with the subscription holders. Most importantly, they are our hosts for the Young Artist's Competition.
Diversity:
We have partnered with two new groups in our community BOOST (Building Our Opportunities Starting Today) and Crescendo. BOOST was formed to encourage diversity in our community and finding ways to diversify organizations. Its organization was timely to the invents we are now experiencing. Crescendo's mission is to connect young professionals in our community who have a shared love and desire to support the arts. As the LSO population ages, this is a great group to bring life and carry on our traditions.
We continue to share the music with many scenarios as we perform in the 2020-21 season's requirements. We look forward to returning to the concert hall, but have been challenged to find new ways to deliver our music. Our world has changed, but we will continue to offer our music and keep our vital presence alive in our community.
