SMOKY MOUNTAIN SERVICE DOGS

To enhance the physical and psychological quality of life for wounded veterans by providing highly trained/custom trained mobility assistance service dogs (at no cost to the veteran)

Founded in 2010, SMSD is professionally run, with no paid administrative staff. Over 150 volunteers puppy raise, socialize, and respite foster our canines. Canines are trained for approximately 1500-1800 hours over a two year period. Home visits are conducted on each potential recipient and the veteran participates in a two week team training camp prior to graduation and Passing of the Leash. SMSD is accredited by Assistance Dogs International.
