The majority of children in Nashville do not have access to excellent schools. In fact, Nashville has 21 schools on the Tennessee Department of Education’s priority (failing) list. Priority schools are either in the bottom 5% or have graduation rates lower than 67%. Seventy-eight out of 100 of high school students did not meet standards to graduate high school.
By partnering with LearningRx, our scholarship students are able to access elite brain-training, remedying years of an inequitable education, giving them the opportunity to excel in the current academic environment and seek higher educational and career pathways that were otherwise out of reach.
The first cohort of students, comprised of both minority and students with disabilities, boasts 2 years of sustained growth after the conclusion of the LearningRx program. This proves that the program is more than a temporary tutoring fix and more of a permanent solution.
Where our students once struggled in school, they now look forward to attending. Those that hesitated to participate, fought with parents over homework and sustained failing grades are now leading class discussions, completing assignments on their own and earning A's and B's.
For some parents, they can finally see a future in which their child can apply for and maintain a job, giving them the chance to live independently. In speaking with our older student, she feels empowered to shape what was once a visionless future into career aspirations that she never dreamed of before.
It is our hope to sponsor a second cohort of students beginning the Spring of 2022. Each scholarship costs between $3,000 and $10,000. Thank you for partnering with us in opening doors for the children of Nashville!
