Land of Promise (LOP) is a 501(c)(3) organization based in Metro Atlanta, committed to the belief that everyone deserves to have enough food to eat. Unfortunately, the repercussions of the government shutdown are obstructing this essential mission, leading many government employees and SNAP recipients to seek food assistance. They are confronted with the challenging decision of whether to purchase food or pay their rent.
LOP established a Community Food Distribution program, functioning as a mobile food pantry. This program provides fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to enhance the health of individuals suffering from diet-related conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, which are prevalent in this community, while also addressing food insecurity. The initiative is designed to strengthen food and nutrition security.
South Fulton County, GA, is a significantly marginalized area facing a range of economic, medical and social difficulties. These challenges are further exacerbated by problems like food deserts and the quest for access to healthy food options. To alleviate transportation difficulties, the Community Food Distribution program provides services directly to the residents in the communities where they live. The mobile food pantry employs a client choice model, empowering program participants to choose their own food items rather than receiving pre-packaged bags of food that they may not prefer.
Recent data highlights that about 1 in 7 Fulton County residents faced food insecurity, and over 51,000 residents relied on SNAP benefits in the Atlanta metro region, with many more struggling to afford food but earning too much to qualify for assistance. LOP collaborates with community and government organizations to identify those most in need of food assistance. The demand is significant, and your generous donations will empower LOP to continue providing nutritious food to children, seniors, veterans, families, SNAP recipients and government employees facing food and nutrition insecurity. Thank you for caring.
