METROPOLITAN SECTION PGA FOUNDATION INC

YOUTH GOLF
The Foundation provides over 5,000 children a year access to golf through the following initiatives: the Met PGA Junior Tour, PGA Junior League, and Drive, Chip, and Putt. These programs serve children of all levels from those just starting out to advanced golfers looking to play collegiate golf.

Drive, Chip & Putt
The Drive, Chip, & Putt Championship is a nationwide junior golf skills competition aimed at growing the game. It is a joint initiative by the PGA of America, Masters Tournament, and USGA. It is open to juniors ages 7-15. Locally, we host numerous qualifiers for the Championship.

PGA Jr. League
PGA Jr. League brings family and friends together around fun team golf experiences with expert coaching from PGA and LPGA Professionals. The program focuses on fun, recreation, good health, and sportsmanship, and character development for boys and girls ages 17 and under to learn and enjoy the game of golf. PGA Jr. League teams play four 9-hole matches in a two-person scramble format, reinforcing the team concept and creating a nurturing environment for learning the game.

The program is split into two primary seasons: Summer and Fall. The PGA Jr. League Postseason is attached to the Summer Season. After participating in the Summer Season, competitive golfers have the opportunity to be selected for their league's All-Star team. The postseason begins in August (late July in some areas), culminating with the PGA Jr. League Championship in October.

Met PGA Junior Tour
Established in 1975, the Junior Tour consists of over 1,300 members and conducts over 120 tournaments per season for junior golfers of all abilities from the ages of 7-18. In addition, members are able to take advantage of special foundation programming including: rules seminars, college golf prep, and other special opportunities.

Met PGA Foundation grants financial assistance to juniors who would otherwise not be able to take full advantage of our programming. For those continuing to college, we offer scholarships as well as guidance on the college golf recruitment process. “Fairways to Success” provides members with mentorship, playing, and practice privileges at facilities that may otherwise be inaccessible to them. Our internship program allows Junior Tour alumni the opportunity to gain work experience in the industry and help build their resume.

MILITARY PILLAR
PGA HOPE
PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is a rehabilitative program designed to introduce golf to Veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being and is our flagship military program.

Met PGA HOPE currently has three sites running two programs a year in West Point, Bronx, and Long Island and graduate on average 200 veterans each year. Year to date we have graduated over 1,000 veterans.

Military Golf League
After graduating from our PGA HOPE program, veterans are given a set of golf clubs to continue on their golf journey. They are invited to play in our Military Golf League, and are encouraged to use their PGA HOPE card to receive discounts at area golf courses and ranges.

VETWORKS
Educates our military veterans about job opportunities in the golf industry and help pair them with a variety of employment opportunities at Metropolitan Section golf courses.

INCLUSION
First Tee
We are proud to be a founding partner of The First Tee of Metropolitan New York at Mosholu Golf Course in the Bronx whose mission is to teach young people who have traditionally not had access to the game, valuable Life Skills, and Nine Core Values. Since its opening in 2001, the facility has been at the forefront of advancing our Foundation’s mission and it is the first of many planned Foundation Learning Centers. In addition to First Tee programming, the facility hosts Met PGA Junior Tour events, PGA Jr. League Teams, is the home to our Bronx PGA HOPE Program, and offers golf course access for our junior golfers and veterans.

PGA WORKS
PGA WORKS Fellowship aspires to be the most valuable entry-level employment opportunity for individuals from diverse backgrounds to garner experience in all facets of the golf industry. The Metropolitan Section PGA will establish a PGA WORKS Fellowship in 2018 through the support of PGA REACH.

PSAL
We strive to provide resources, professional expertise, and programs to make golf accessible to all segments of the population through various community outreach programs such as: Golf-in-Schools, and our NYC Public School Athletic League Golf Program. Our PSAL program pairs PGA Professionals with 40 inner-city school teams to enhance their knowledge and skill level and has over 350 kids participating.
