Diversity is a very important value at Palo Alto University. The institution's goal is to promote, on all levels, efforts to integrate understanding and scholarship related to diversity into our mission of training culturally competent clinical and research psychologists. Our vision is to create an institution that is a national model for culturally competent clinical psychology and counseling training programs. In order to create institutional excellence in cultural competency, PAU has addressed six focus areas: Funding, Institution-wide Assessment, Student and Faculty Recruitment, Culturally Competent Curriculum, Faculty and Student Development, and Institutional Culture.
PAU maintains several international collaborations, supporting local, clinical practicum training in China and Latin America for students who participate in PAU’s online M.A. in Counseling or Counseling Psychology programs. The University is also in collaborative partnerships with many community organizations, including Stanford School of Medicine, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Palo Alto Medical Center, and other mental health care organizations. The Gronowski Center, PAU's training clinic, delivers sliding-scale mental health services while also providing valuable, supervised training to PAU graduate students. In addition, PAU sponsors several academic centers devoted to child mental health, evidence-based care for LGBTQ+ clients, excellence in diversity and community care, and internet-based global healthcare.
