Trails End exists to provide an alternative to owners who can no longer care for their aged equines or may be considering sending them to slaughter. As we have room, we also save elderly horses bound for slaughter or auction where they face an unknown fate of suffering.
Horse care is extremely expensive. and often owners find themselves in a situation where they can no longer afford to care for their animals. Without an alternative, thousands of horses are sent to slaughter each year in the United States. Horse slaughter is not legal here, so horses are shipped to Mexico or Canada, often enduring great cruelty and suffering.

While we can't help them all, we strive to make a difference where we can and provide a safe haven for elderly horses to live in peace and security.

Three of our current retirees have faithfully served in Connecticut with the V.E.T.S program helping to ease stress and provide camaraderie to our military veterans. These horses deserve a peaceful retirement after the gift of healing they have given to our veterans.
