Odin's Warrior Tribe is a Virginia non-stock company formed for religious, educational, and charitable purposes and we are an IRS 501c3 recognized charity. We are a registered charity in the State of Virginia. Our core area is Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia; however, we have military members around the US and international military veteran members in Europe and have conducted some activities in Europe.
The leadership is composed of active duty and veteran military officers and senior non-commissioned officers who are volunteers.
We seek to support military heathens (who follow the ancient Norse and Germanic religion - which some call Asatru) and veterans, regardless of their backgrounds, through activities that include:
Participation in Viking combat (with padded fencing type gear), related competitive activities, heathen workshops, ritual, and feasts.
Athletic activities such as blacksmithing, marches with active military units, historical fencing, archery, Norse and Germanic wrestling, martial arts, horseback riding, sailing on Viking ships, and indoor skydiving.
Veterans Book and Film Club.
Battlefield and Museum visits that have included Gettysburg and the National Museum of the US Army and the Fort Benning Infantry Museum.
Attending Nordic type concerts and Viking festivals with members and veterans.
Supporting military heathen burials, including advice on heathen burial practices and offering heathen rites by fellow military heathens. Currently, this is limited to the State of Virginia, but it will expand.
Charitable projects for military veterans in a need of a little help, including potentially some small scholarships for trade skills like blacksmithing.
Military veteran networking activities and events: Check our events on our website. We are having a 26-foot Viking ship built by professional wooden boatbuilders (trained at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, Denmark and Mystic Seaport) in Connecticut that started in June 2021. This project will run into the fall of 2022. Military veterans have traveled to the build location and volunteered to learn real ancient boat building skills (clinker style) now recognized as a world heritage by UNESCO. Our Viking boat will be used in our Tribe/veterans' activities. Many of our members are combat veterans and bond easily and lend a sympathetic ear to those who have also served in "harm's way."
We currently rent land we call Viking Camp, near the Chesapeake Bay, and in the long term we seek to establish a permanent location that will serve the Tribe and our military veteran activities.
Our members are either serving honorably or have been discharged honorably and we do not allow felons or extremists of any sort to join. All prospective members are subject to background checks and must follow a Tribal code of conduct very similar to US military leadership principles.
In our Tribe, and at our events, there is no discrimination of any kind based on racial, religious, gender, or political preferences or backgrounds. We follow Department of Defense E.O, policies.
