Horse therapy has been proven to reduce PTSD symptoms in veterans by 50% in 8 weeks two separate university research studies published in medical journals. The VA reports that 70% of veterans with PTSD have chosen NOT to receive any treatment for their diagnosis. Many isolate themselves in their homes, and 22 of these veterans are committing suicide EACH DAY according to the VA website.
Hope for Heroes Horsemanship Center teaches basic natural horsemanship to veterans and active duty military suffering PTSD. We have no licensed therapists on staff, as the horses are the therapists. Horses have a natural survival instinct ability to detect anxiety within humans working with them as a way to sense if danger is nearby. This makes them anxious and harder to work with.
