The Backwoods Warriors Foundation aims to provide mentor opportunities for tomorrow’s hunters throughout the Commonwealth. Access to the outdoors is essential for the development of today’s youth. Backwoods Warriors believes that offering hunting experiences for youth promotes conservation and continues the traditions set forth by our ancestors.
Additionally, looks to honor our veterans by providing hunting opportunities for them and their families. The bond and enrichment of the outdoors offers a unique avenue for us to show our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Our hunts are a small way to say, “thank you.”
Backwoods Warriors has worked since its inception in 2017 to promote outdoor experiences in Virginia. The Foundation continues to be committed to expanding opportunities to experience the outdoors for veterans and youth. Backwoods Warriors hopes to address limiting factors for opportunities for engagement in the outdoors; access to hunting land, cost of equipment and lack of mentorship in the outdoors.
The Foundation is focusing 2024 efforts on youth and veteran events with longstanding partners at Monquin Creek Outdoors (MCO). The Foundation will look to expand opportunities in the outdoors pairing hunts on quality hunting lands and providing necessary equipment with mentors in the outdoor community. We look to build on past successes by increasing the number of youth and veterans involved in these events. The MCO Youth Turkey Event will offer opportunities to recruit new hunters and mentor existing youth hunters this April. In addition to our youth & veteran waterfowl event in February which draws 120+ participants our sights are set on developing a similar event for the early youth waterfowl day in October. In December, we will work to expand hunting opportunities for Veterans and mobility impaired deer hunters of the Commonwealth by supporting annual Disabled Veterans Hunt at MCO.
