One of the greatest losses to seniors entering homelessness is the loss of personal dignity, self-respect, and hope. After years of being a part of society, working, being a part of a family, and making their own way, they are now utterly humiliated.
Justa Center believes that rebuilding life in a new apartment starts with a brand-new bed. A new twin mattress, with a metal folding platform frame, and bug/moisture proof protector is foundation for feeling better physically, emotionally, and tells the individual they are worthy.
It started with a grant for $5,000 which allowed an initial one-time purchase of 50 deeply-discounted mattresses, covers and frames. These were distributed to the next 50 seniors who entered housing.
The current cost of this program is less than $300 per bed for all items. Imagine how this would help!
