WERLA Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center

We want to build a bigger, permanent wildlife rehabilitation and education center for WERLA. This new facility will help Louisiana wildlife and support our growing group of volunteers and supporters. It will offer more space for caring for injured and orphaned animals, special areas for recovery and treatment, classrooms for learning, places for volunteer training, and a safe spot where visitors can discover more about wildlife conservation and rehabilitation in Louisiana.

WERLA is growing, but our current space makes it hard to handle more wildlife cases, volunteers, educational programs, and community partnerships each year. A new facility will help us give better care to animals, take in more wildlife for rehabilitation, safely house recovering animals, and run our rescue operations in a more organized and efficient way.

This project will help WERLA reach more people by adding classrooms and educational spaces. Children, families, schools, veterans, and community members will be able to join wildlife education programs, volunteer training, conservation events, and hands-on learning activities.

Besides helping wildlife, the new center will offer valuable volunteer opportunities for disabled veterans and community members. Many find healing, purpose, and connection by helping animals in need. WERLA believes that caring for wildlife not only saves animals, but also has a positive effect on the people who support our mission.

We hope to build a welcoming wildlife rehabilitation and education center where compassion, conservation, education, and community all come together. It will be a place for injured wildlife to heal, for volunteers to serve with purpose, and for the public to learn how to appreciate and protect Louisiana’s native wildlife for future generations.
