Because We Can - Because We Care provides services to disabled/special needs children and Veterans with horses that have been rescued, rehabilitated and retrained using our method of horsemanship. Our method establishes a relationship between horse and human based on mutual Trust, Confidence and Respect (TCR).
Our TCR Horsemanship has created positive changes in the lives of the people and horses in our program. Horses that have been abused, neglected or abandoned have found a new purpose in helping Veterans and children.
Veterans who join our program are working on their personal recovery to a wide range of related challenges. These challenges include adjusting to physical disabilities or even overcoming emotional and psychological stressors such as PTSD, that affect them as a result of their military service. Through our program these men and women have a chance to redevelop skills and confidence and gain a sense of purpose. These veterans are participating in a program benefits them, and they are helping to rehab and retrain our rescue horses to provide a valuable service in our children’s program.
• Veterans learn how to be in control of and recognize their own negative and positive energy as expressed through body language (sensed by the horse).
• Learn how to read the energy and body language of the horse.
• Learn how to ride independently and build physical skills.
• Assist in training and doing ground-work with the horses.
• Have a chance to volunteer in the children’s program.
The Veterans Program is open to veterans, military service members, law enforcement and firefighter personnel all of which we consider our HERO’s.
Children with special needs and/or disabilities learn
• Our program focuses on working with the child at their level to help them become independent riders.
• We assist in building better communication skills.
• We facilitate working on motor skills and physical strength and balance.
• We facilitate working on focus, attention and self-control.
