The lack of accurate wound care resources for patients and non-wound care clinicians is big problem and can ultimately lead to amputation or death. Considering the 5 year morbidity of wound patients is worse than almost all cancer 5 year morbidity rates, resources and awareness are long overdue.
The WHF plans to develop and disseminate for free use, a new and accurate wound care book written for patients using an easy to read and understand format. The book will be written in collaboration between wound care patients willing to share their stories and with wound care experts outlining best care practices. By sharing both the patient perspective and the clinician perspective, a unique and better compliance for wound care will be achieved for readers.
The ebook will be free for anyone to use and developed such that new chapters can be added in as well as allow for future revisions as treatments advance or change. Once the ebook is published and patient feedback is received, long range plans for having the ebook translated from English into other languages would take place. The biggest expenses for this project are expected to be the software platform and the language translations.
