Comprehensive Academics Tutoring Service (CATS) is a recognized nonprofit organization providing services to children, youth, adults, and families since 2001. We are located in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, NY. Our mission is to comprehensively create, implement, and provide a holistic approach to services that connect children, youth, adults, families, and veterans with opportunities to enhance their quality of life through advocacy, outreach, and community involvement. We offer a wide range of programs that aim to assist the individuals in need in the community and help them enhance their quality of life. In 2017, CATS expanded its services to older youth and veterans. The target populations to be served are those who are residing in Shelters (homeless), NYCHA residents, at-risk children, youth, low to moderate-income families in need, and veterans.
CATS program, projects, and services include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Housing Workshops to assist families/veterans residing in Shelters to move from temporary housing into permanent housing
• Youth Empowerment Program will provide youth with the information, tools, resources, and support they need to empower themselves
• Affordable OSHA/Fall Prevention/CPR/Health and Safety Training Program (Daycare) to ensure individuals meet the standards and qualifications for ensuring a safe and healthy environment and to reduce the risk of workplace hazards
• Job/Vocational training services to develop and/or enhance skills and obtain specific credentials needed to meet the hiring requirements of industries /employers and participate in the workforce
• Assist veterans in obtaining compensation benefits, resources, and Pro Bono legal services for those facing denial of benefits
• Advocacy services to ensure that clients are aware of rights and entitlements for which they are eligible
• Engage and/or assess individuals potentially in need and provide information, food insecurity, and/or linkages to community-based services
• Back-to-School Supplies Giveaway/Back-to-Work Expo
• Thanksgiving Harvest Basket Giveaway to families/veterans in need
• Toy giveaway to those perhaps financially disadvantaged children
