JCP CARES was founded by Kathy Bravo in June of 2007 and a group of neighbors in Julington Creek Plantation. Recognizing that although St. Johns is one of the wealthiest counties in Florida, approximately 50% of the residents in parts of the County live below the poverty line. Instead of limiting assistance to one type of group, our assistance is focused on non-profit organizations in St. Johns County working with our target populations of the Elderly, Veterans, Homeless, Abused, Children, and Animals. To better reflect the locations of the 40 non-profit organizations assisted and our volunteer base, the name was changed to St. Johns CARES, Inc. in 2015.
Our mission statement of “Uniting the Community Through Helping Others in Need” is evidenced by volunteers willing to help others and donors at host donation collection sites in libraries, schools, day care centers, businesses and other organizations.
Since 2007 we have raised over $1,000,000 worth of charitable donations for our non-profit organization partners & their clients within St. Johns County. Our volunteers have provided over 30,000 community service hours.
St. Johns CARES, Inc. provides assistance to local charities and those in need through donations and time. Assistance is provided through our Annual Initiatives ( Pet Food Drive, Backpacks/contents for Homeless High School Seniors enrolling in higher education, Food Drive, Giving Tree) as well as assistance for Special identified needs throughout the year. We also provide monthly snack & hygiene donations to a High School with a high population of economically-challenged families.
Besides assistance to the 40 non-profit organizations on our partner list, we work to raise awareness of the needs in the Community.
As an all-volunteer organization less than 3% of monetary donations is spent on overhead.
