ISRAEL GUIDE DOG CENTER FOR THE BLIND

The Israel Guide Dog Center for the Blind is the only internationally accredited guide dog program serving Israel’s 24,000 blind and visually impaired individuals. Since 1991, our mission has been to improve the quality of life of blind Israelis by providing them with safe mobility, independence and self-confidence through the faithful assistance of guide dog partners specially trained in Hebrew for the challenging conditions in Israel. In fact, guide dogs in Israel have the additional critical task of guiding their masters to safety during terrorist missile attacks.

We also provide PTSD Service Dogs for veterans who have experienced service-related trauma, and Emotional Support Dogs for children on the spectrum.

Creating each Partnership teaming a blind person with a guide dog is a complex process that takes nearly two years and includes breeding and raising our puppies, putting the puppies through guide dog training, and then matching and instructing the visually impaired person with the guide dog, at the Center and in their home.

We are proud to report that both GuideStar and Charity Navigator have given us their highest possible ratings.

There are many people on our waiting list -- hoping for a chance to get a guide dog that will help to make their lives better. A guide dog not only leads their partner safely -- but they offer constant companionship -- and they help people to not feel so isolated. Guide dogs also connect their visually impaired partner with other people who are attracted to the dogs and frequently approach our clients to ask questions. A guide dog makes a profound difference in the life of a person who is visually impaired on many different levels.
