Homeless Not Toothless (HNT) is a nonprofit organization committed to restoring dignity, health, and hope through access to comprehensive dental care. For more than 25 years, HNT has provided over $10 million in free dental services to more than 150,000 individuals experiencing homelessness, including foster youth, survivors of domestic violence, and families in financial distress.
Our Free Dental Care for Homeless Veterans initiative specifically addresses the urgent oral health needs of U.S. veterans experiencing homelessness. Many of these individuals face complex barriers to accessing dental care, including lack of insurance, transportation difficulties, and limited eligibility under the Veterans Affairs (VA) system. As a result, untreated dental disease leads to chronic pain, malnutrition, infections, and diminished self-confidence—further perpetuating cycles of homelessness.
Through this program, HNT provides no-cost dental services—including exams, cleanings, fillings, root canals, dentures, and restorative care—to homeless veterans in Los Angeles County. Our team of volunteer dentists, hygienists, and oral surgeons partner with local shelters, veteran service organizations, and community groups to ensure care reaches those most in need. By offering both urgent and preventative treatment, we improve not only oral health but also overall health outcomes, employability, and quality of life for participants.
This project embodies our belief that a smile can change a life. For homeless veterans, regaining oral health is a vital step toward reintegration into society, securing employment, and restoring confidence. With continued support from community partners and funders, we aim to expand outreach and serve hundreds of homeless veterans annually, ensuring that those who served our country receive the care and dignity they deserve.
