We are FLOCK, a co-creative choreography project founded in 2017 by Florian Lochner and Alice Klock and currently based in Chicago IL.
Our goal is to create work that is very human, that is kind, and that can translate across boundaries and touch people regardless of their understanding of dance. This mission has grown into a large scale project that we are still in the initial phases of constructing. We shall begin with describing the long term goal and then shall explain what we are doing presently.
We are working towards creating an art center in Germany. Florian Lochner hails from beautiful Crailsheim, a small but conveniently located village in Hohenlohe. It has been his dream for a long time to bring art to his home region and in so doing give the surrounding big cities an escape to the country where they can experience some of the world’s most impactful art in a beautiful setting. At this level the project would involve purchasing and renovating a farm, creating studio/performance space, and would progress to bringing in artists for dance intensives, dance residencies, and performances by the resident company, FLOCK. We would also tour our work to other areas in Germany and the US. We are interested in bringing dance to communities that do not have access to a lot of performance and would engage in these communities further with outreach and school shows in addition to the main performance.
In our current phase of creation we are building the FLOCK name through annual shows in Crailsheim, teaching, and setting new work co-choreographed by Alice and Florian on companies and schools in the US. We have amassed a substantial and devoted online following that continues to grow and reached our goal in a recent goFundMe we set up to support this year’s annual show in Germany.
Our overarching mission is to change dance culture. We believe that the field can evolve to be more inclusive and more accessible and we strive to be a part of this change. Through our teaching which focuses on self-love and expansion of personal artistry and through our performances which strip down elitism and pretension with work centered around the goal of touching people on a deeper human level. We are incredibly passionate about this project and committed to it for the long haul.
