Our project is the creation and production of the Premier Season of Next Iteration Theater Company, LLC. To that end, Artistic Director, dianne k. webb, is securing rights to a new play for its first full production by an emerging playwright; connecting with and reading plays by playwrights from around the country from often underserved groups including women playwrights, playwrights of color, and international playwrights. For our first season we are proposing a mini Reading Series of 3 plays in November over a three-night period. Each of these plays will bring new or un or under-represented forms, content, and/or voices to the stage in Houston. Next, in March of 2016 will be the world premier of The Baby, by Lisa Omlie at the M.A.T.C.H. black box venue in Houston. IN May 2015 we will schedule an international Reading Series of up to five works over five nights.
As a production company we strive to pay a living wage to the cast, directors, stage managers, crew, and designers. While we know, for a new company with little to no funding, we have a long road in front of us, but built into our budgets, even as a non-equity company, we seek to pay major roles $10 per hour and $100 per performance, minor roles, 7.25 per hour and $50 per performance and a beginning stipend for the director, stage manager, designers, tech, and crew. We are committed to raising the funds to accomplish this in new and innovative ways, leveraging whatever resources we can to create not only artistically professional, creative and expressive theater but theater that allows a true ensemble to emerge as directors, cast and crew can expend creative energies on the stage rather than trying to make ends meet. We understand our goals are going to be a process, but we have to start somewhere. Respecting the work, the creative potential of the performing artists and technicians, and the time it takes to create moving, evocative theater is our primary goal.
