Here at Knot On Call, we recognize that first responders tirelessly give their all to ensure our safety and well-being, often placing the needs of the community above their own. Knowing that they are under immense pressures and stress, it’s crucial to provide them with opportunities to unwind and rejuvenate their body and minds.
We have organized event days, where we will take first responders on the lake and teach them how to wake surf. We will pair the soothing power of water with this exhilarating and refreshing sport. This will allow the first responder to have a valuable mental break from their demanding work environments, critical incidents, and traumatic experiences that they are constantly exposed to.
Providing first responders with a serene environment we hope to allow them to relax mentally and to enjoy the simple things in life. Getting them to learn how to balance on the wave can be metaphorically akin to balancing their work life balance. The beautiful lake environment and the rhythmic sound of the water creates the perfect setting for first responders to reflect and have mental clarity. We want them to be able to relax and be fully immersed in the wakesurfing experience.
The time spent on the clear California waters will be in a group setting. It provides the perfect environment for meeting other first responders that are experiencing similar daily stresses of their jobs. Also it will give them a chance to bond with someone new. This camaraderie developed can lead to lasting friendships which can provide a support network outside of their jobs which is crucial for their mental health. They will be building relationships while on the waves.
These events are designed to acknowledge the hard work and sacrifices that these first responders make and also promote their mental and physical well-being. The skills learned during these surf sessions can boost confidence and provide a fulfilling hobby that can enrich their personal and family lives. When they return to work, they will be invigorated and with a renewed spirit and outlook so they are ready to answer their next call with a sound state of mind.
