BOOKS FOR BOOTS

Books for Boots is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides new and gently used books, movies, music cd’s, and craft items to injured recruits in our country’s military basic training installations. We've also recently been able to provide books and items to local active duty unit stations, deployment units, and veteran homes.

We are a small group on unpaid volunteers that gather donated items from our local community in the Greater Baton Rouge Area. All items are cleaned, checked for damage, and inventoried. Items are boxed according to media or item type and size and shipped to military basic training facilities for injured recruits in medical rehabilitation units.

Why do we do this? Once a recruit is placed into a medical rehab unit, it could take two weeks or more for books and comfort items to reach them from home. From our experience, there are a lot of families that simply can’t afford to ship in books or comfort items to their injured recruit. Medical rehab units have limited resources to provide these items to recruits on a continuous basis and to maintain a community library for injured recruits. We can help with this.

As of August 25, 202, we have shipped over 2,700 books!
