Shaxberd's mission is to create, support, and uplift theatre that reframes societal concepts and standards which diminish marginalized voices.

This year's play reading series will be focused on providing space for new works to get a public audience. New work is the motor of live theatre. We cannot rely on restaging the same plays over and over. We have to continue moving forward with fresh stories, be it through brand-new words, or a complete reenvisioning of an old story. It is exceptionally difficult for unestablished playwrights to find opportunities to produce their work and we are setting out to create those opportunities in order to keep that motor running.
