The Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery is the final resting place for veterans and their families in Hampton Roads, many of whom have served in conflicts around the world. More than 16,000 veterans are interned at AGHJMVC with possibly 600 or more veterans or their families’ members buried every year. Currently less than 10% of the veterans buried at the Albert G Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk VA receive the honors they deserve. The on-site Memorial Honor Guard Corps mission is to provide these honors and support the following:
a. To provide Honor Guards and provide the recognized 21 Gun-Salute to members being
interned or buried at the cemetery, with family approval or request.
b. To work with the Albert G. Horton Wreath Society in the purchase and placement of
wreaths on Veterans’ gravesites at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery, in Suffolk, Virginia.
c. To provide Ambassadors to attend and assist families during interment and internment.
d. Obtaining tangible items such as flags and poles, benches, memorials, flora and fauna to enhance and/or support the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
e. To educate the public about the cemetery and the sacrifices made by the veterans who
served our nation.
f. Any other projects approved by the board of directors to support the cemetery and other veteran organizations and causes.
