DARRINGTON FOOD BANK FOUNDATION

We are an all volunteer non profit located in eastern rural Snohomish County. The nearest food banks are 30 miles away.
Our service area includes small communities named Whitehorse, Swede Heaven, Punkin Town, Rockport and Marblemount. Our 17 volunteers provide food each week to approximately 120 to 140 households including delivery to seniors, veterans and those without transportation.
Thanks to some grants, we have developed a Youth Internship program which provides 16 to 19 year olds supervised job training at the food bank and a stipend upon completion.
In partnership with the Darrington School District, we empowered a couple of our Youth Interns to establish and manage the "Teen Tent" program which provides easy to prepare meals and hygiene products to 40 - 50 teens that are homeless and/or don't have access to a regular meal - especially when school is not in session. This has morphed into providing clothing and working with Community Transit to expand transportation opportunities to rural youth.
