Wounded Paw Project was founded by Ernesto P. Hernandez III, a Purple Heart recipient and his dog Daisy, a Pitbull/Labrador shelter rescue. After suffering injuries in Iraq that resulted in being awarded the Purple Heart by using his own body that other may live. Ernesto was in constant pain and give numerous opioids. The doctor's treatment to heal Ernesto's physical and invisible wounds failed repeatedly. Where no doctor, clinician, family or friend could help, Daisy was able to help heal him. Daisy became a shelter dog turned to a service dog. Together Ernesto and Daisy formed the Wounded Paw Project in 2016 to give shelter and rescue dogs a second tail in life.
