BLACK KNIGHTS

The thrust of our financial campaign is to create a home and an identity for the 3rd Squadron 5th Cavalry Vietnam, those that made the ultimate sacrifice, and those that served. Our original campaign was to construct a Monument at Fort Knox - which we dedicated in June 2003. As a result of the consolidation of Armor, Cavalry, and maneuver operations at Fort Benning, the new Patton's Park was dedicated in late 2014. Shortly thereafter we began our fundraising efforts to relocate our Monument from Fort Knox to the new Patton's Park and use that as a centerpiece for an expanded Memorial. We dedicated our new Memorial in July of 2017 (see attachment below) which consists of a 25' in diameter concrete pad with the (5) Troop Monuments in a half moon configuration facing the Squadron Monument. There are (336) engraved black granite pavers inlayed in the base of the Memorial representing our brothers - in - arms who made the ultimate sacrifice. In front of the Squadron Monument is an engraved plaque for Jon Swanson who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. There is a 22' X 7' Walk of Honor with (7) rows of engraved granite pavers representing some (400) of those that served with our unit and those that contributed to our fund raising efforts.
