Chesapeake, VirginiaThe DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education for children.
Most of DAR's volunteer work is accomplished by the grassroots efforts of chapters on the local level which focus on the mission areas of DAR by encouraging members to become involved in these initiatives in their local communities. Examples of service: restore and maintain historical sites; locate and mark Revolutionary War patriot gravesites; place monuments to memorialize people and events in American history; preserve genealogical records, artifacts, documents; provide scholarships ...
